Welcome Back!
Welcome back! I hope you all had a fun and restful break. It's a brand new semester and that means we are ALL starting with CLEAN SLATE! You have one semester of Freshmen Year under your belt and you should now know what is expected of you as a student here at Granada. If you put in the effort, you will certainly do well this semester! Please see the "Class Files" section for the Updated Student Responsibilities list. I am looking forward to a productive semester with all of you!

Additional Work Time for Body Systems Project!
Good news! We will be providing some time in all the Skills classes to support all Freshmen with their Biology Body Systems Project. Please bring all materials to class on the designated dates (to be announced - first day will be Monday 11/8)). You will have access to 10 Biology books, the class laptops, and the extra help from our fine mentors!
Those who do not bring materials will not receive the day's participation points and will be given an alternate assignment.
I know many of you have a very busy life of extra-curricular activities, so please use this time wisely to produce a stelllar project! :)

Revolution Prep
Today, Friday, September 24, was your first Revolution Work monthly check. I just wanted to send out a few reminders to students and parents about how the program works and how the students' progress will be graded:
1.) The website address for Revolution is online.revolutionprep.com. The students were given their username and password during Summer Transition Academy or during the first week of school if they did not sattend STA. The site can be accessed via any computer that has internet access, not just from the school computers. We encourage students to work at home and continually execise their math skills.
2.) Students are still required to show their work on a sheet of paper every Wednesday in class. This is not only "evidence" that they were on-task and being productive in class that day, but is also a record of their progress and particular strengths and/or weaknesses in various mathematical concepts.
3.) Students are responsible for completing their Parent Verification Sheet by each monthly check (Please see the Revolution Prep Due Date Schedule). They are to record their assessment percentage for each Mentor Session and obtain a parent signature for every session in which they score below a 75%. The Revolution Due Date Schedule and Parent Verification form have been uploaded onto the "Class Files" section of this website for your convenience. Students will be graded on: completion of the schedule Mentored session, the work under the "Revolution" tab of their binder, and the completion of the Parent Verification Form.
**Remember: Students are to clear all their "Homework" from their "Active Tab" to be considered complete!

Maintain Agendas/Planners!
Please make sure your agenda is being maintained EVERY DAY complete with ALL of your classes written with the HW for each class. Remember, if you have no Hw, still write "no HW". Make sure that the assignments are highlighted when completed and that there is a parent signature for every day (25 points total). I will be conducting these checks at random to ensure this task is being completed! Form the habit of recording your homework and staying organized if you haven't already - this is intended to benefit you!
Independent Study Days
Students are REQUIRED to bring work to class that will consume at least HALF THE PERIOD on Tuesdays, Thursdays for Independent Study. Once the student completes the math enrichment for the day, he/she will be allowed to work on HW from other classes and receive help from the Peer Mentors. Work includes, but is not limited to:
-homework
-making flashcards (especially for math and English/Foreign Language vocabulary)
- taking notes on sections of the book
- studying
- reading a course required book (i.e. Of Mice and Men for most 9th grade English classes)
- filing and organizing papers for class binder

Welcome!
Welcome Freshmen and Parents/Guardians to the 2010-2011 School-year and to Ms. Bacon's Skills for Success class. Please take a moment to review the syllabus and Introductory PowerPoint that I have uploaded onto the "Class Files" section below. Here, you will get have a better understanding of the goals and requirements of this class.
As I said on the first day of class and will repeat on Back to School night), this class is a bit different from your typical academic class (Math, English, etc). It is designed as a support class to exercise and fine tune the skills needed to succeed in your other classes. Although the focus will mainly be on English and Math, we will certainly learning skills (analysis, extrapolation of main ideas from a piece of writing, and logic, just to name a few) that can be carried over and utilized across a variety of subject areas.
On this webpage you will have access to Class announcements, class HW, and any documents that I have shared with the class. My contact information is also available and you should know that I am best reached via email. I look forward to working with each and every one of you to make this an exciting and productive school year!
